Multi-factor Authentication

On December 1, 2020, all CMCC employees will be transitioned to our a new multi-factor authentication program which will be adding a new layer of security to our online activities.

How and When?

Prior to December 1 2020, you will receive an email from the Division of IT (it@CMCC.ca) with instructions to download and install the Microsoft Authenticator App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and register with your CMCC account to be able to sign in and access all CMCC data, documents and applications. It’s simple to do and will allow us to ensure that your online interactions are safe and secure.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

MFA is not new to most of you by now. If you bank or shop online, multi-factor or two-factor identification is widely used. It is a security enhancement that requires two sets of different credentials to assess and grant users access to an application or a service (i.e., your password paired with a code sent to your mobile phone).

Why is it important to CMCC and to you?

In today's online environment, the fundamental “username and password” approach to account security can be easily breached by cyber criminals. Logins can be compromised in just matter of minutes. Institutional information and private information is under increasing threat which makes a strong case for new web security tools and practices. The amount and sophistication of data breaches phishing attacks continues to increase. With the addition of MFA, CMCC staff, faculty will have an additional layer of security to protect their highly sesnitive work, research, data and identity.
