CMCC Web Site Privacy Statement

Welcome to the cmcc.ca web site (the "cmcc.ca site"), owned and managed by the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College ("CMCC"). Various CMCC services are offered through web pages at cmcc.ca and are made available subject to this Privacy Statement. This statement discloses the privacy practices of the cmcc.ca site. By using the CMCC services, you agree, without limitation or qualification, to be bound by this Privacy Statement.

The Privacy Statement contains detailed information about the following:

We collect two types of information from you, "Anonymous Information" and "Identifiable Information".

Anonymous Information refers to information that cannot be traced back to an identifiable specific individual. Each time a visitor comes to the cmcc.ca site, CMCC collects information that is necessary to improve the overall quality of the visitor's online experience. CMCC collects the visitor's referral data (e.g., the address of the last URL a user visited prior to clicking through to cmcc.ca), and browser and platform type (e.g., a Netscape browser on a Macintosh platform). CMCC also collects aggregate search terms from its search services for internal reporting, service improvement and targeted advertising.

CMCC also uses Anonymous Information to perform statistical analyses of the collective characteristics and behavior of our registered users and visitors, and to measure user demographics and interests regarding specific areas of the cmcc.ca site. Without such data, we would be unable to identify the most popular areas of the cmcc.ca site, and we would be unable change and update the content and services appropriately. No Identifiable Information will be used during these activities.

In addition to this Anonymous Information, CMCC may also collect Identifiable Information, being information that tells us specifically who is using the cmcc.ca site, such as your name, phone number and e-mail address. Wherever and whenever CMCC collects Identifiable Information, we include a link to this Privacy Statement on that page.

CMCC collects Identifiable Information in the following ways from different parts of the cmcc.ca site:

  • identifiable Information is gathered when you voluntarily register for an account on cmcc.ca. If you choose to register you must provide CMCC with your name, e-mail address, and may also provide additional information such as your address and phone number. Once you register, you will have a cmcc.ca login ID and password. You will be able to take full advantage of the many offerings on the cmcc.ca site, and will enjoy a customized experience based on your profile (e.g. student, alumni, faculty, etc.).
  • identifiable Information is also gathered when you register for courses, make an on-line donation or register for an event. The information asked for is limited to what is required in order to provide you with, and confirm, the services you are requesting.
  • identifiable Information, including your payment information, is gathered when you make on-line Supply Centre & Bookstore purchases.
  • in addition to when you are registering for services or purchasing products on the cmcc.ca site, CMCC may ask you for Identifiable Information at other times, including certain necessary information when you take a survey, agree to participate in research projects, or agree to receiving promotional messages about services or products offered by CMCC or one of our partners.

With your specific permission, the cmcc.ca site may, from time to time, use your information to contact you about changes or enhancements to services on the cmcc.ca site. If you indicate that you were interested in receiving promotional offers, your Identifiable Information will be used for such communications.

CMCC also uses your device’s IP address and cookies to for analytics and performance, such as to:

  • measure traffic patterns. Without cookies, it could be difficult for CMCC to know that certain services are more popular than others. This information also helps us to better understand when to offer new services.

Due to our service provider relationships, your personal information may be processed and/stored in a foreign country where it may be accessible to law enforcement and national security authorities of that jurisdiction.

CMCC may also be required by law enforcement or judicial authorities here in Canada to provide information on individual users to the appropriate governmental authorities.

Only authorized employees who have a need to know your information for the purposes described in this statement have access to the information you choose to provide to us.

CMCC has imposed strict rules on cmcc.ca site employees who have access to the databases that store user information or to the servers that host data on behalf of CMCC. While we cannot guarantee that loss, misuse or alteration to data will not occur, we make every effort to prevent such unfortunate occurrences. For example, we employ Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol to encrypt your Identifiable Information when it is transmitted to us, and our web server sits behind a regularly patched firewall.

If you would like to make such a request, please e-mail ${spammenot.encodeEmail("communications@cmcc.ca", "communications@cmcc.ca")} (Attn: Privacy Officer). In the context of a request for erasure, CMCC will scramble or pseudonymize the data subject’s information to make it anonymous.

CMCC is a Canadian organization and uses data hosting providers who have made GDPR commitments of their own. Canada was the first country outside of Europe deemed adequate by the EU Commission in 2001, under the EU Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC (the GDPR’s predecessor). An adequacy finding allows the flow of data from the EU to Canada as a trusted country in data protection.

CMCC takes full responsibility for the management and confidentiality of Identifiable Information that we hold. We also have a detailed privacy breach response plan to effectively manage and mitigate privacy risks.

CMCC welcomes your comments regarding this Privacy Statement.
