Biography

Dr. Stephen Burnie is an Instructor and Resource Clinician at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College’s Campus Walk-In Clinic and practices in a multidisciplinary clinic with family doctors in central Toronto. He is also a Consultant Assessor for the Canadian Rehabilitation Institute in Toronto and a Clinical Research Review Author for Research Review Service in Toronto. After earning an undergraduate degree in Biology and Psychology at McMaster University, he completed his Doctor of Chiropractic at CMCC and his Level 1 Acupuncture Certification from the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute. Last year, he graduated with his Masters of Science in Rehabilitation Sciences at McMaster University and this year he completed his certification in Pedorthist at the Robert M. Palmer Institute of Biomechanics. Dr. Burnie’s research focuses on neck manipulation and mobilization. As a member of the Cervical Overview Group, an international and interdisciplinary research team examining optimal treatments for mechanical neck disorders, he is a co-ordinator for systematic review projects that aim to provide up to date, evidence-based recommendations for chiropractors and other health providers treating neck pain. He has contributed articles to the Human Mutation, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and several other academic journals. He is also a member of the Ontario Chiropractic Association, the Canadian Chiropractic Association, and the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada. He is a recipient of many honours and awards including a fellowship from the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research, a fellowship from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, CMCC’s Board of Governor’s Chair Award, Dr. Michael Brickman’s Memorial Graduation Award, the Douglas Brown Memorial Graduation Award, the Nicola Tantalo Award for community service, CMCC’s Governor’s Club Corporate Members Award and the University of Toronto’s Life Science Award.
